Rosemary McKenry travels extensively in outback Australia and only paints places she has lived in or visited.
Many of her paintings are derived from the patterns that appear when viewed from the air. For example, her 2011 exhibition featured a series based on the inundation of the Channel Country and Lake Eyre during the previous year.
She uses colour to depict the feelings she experiences in each environment, with detailed shapes to symbolise the geography of a landscape.
The stain painting technique used requires multiple layers of transparent acrylic paint on untreated canvas to build up the complex and rich subtleties demanded by the landscapes.
